I made this dress out of a pillowcase! This is a quick and easy way to up-cycle a gently used pillowcase into a wearable – not to mention cute and fashionable – dress.
Total time: 10 min. (or less)
Supplies needed: 1 pillowcase, fabric scissors
Visit your favorite secondhand store, or retrieve a lone pillowcase from your linen closet. I used an extra-large sized pillowcase. Pillowcases generally run in these sizes: standard, king & extra large. The extra-large cases are sometimes used for body pillows. I chose to use the longest size available because I wanted to be able to wear this as a dress without leggings or stockings; but you can use any size you like, especially if you want to wear it over jeans or stockings, etc.
Simply cut a slit in the closed end of the pillowcase, big enough for your head to go through comfortably. Measure approximately where you would like your arm holes to be, and cut slits in the side seams. Slip it on over your head, and ta-da! You have yourself a pillowcase dress.
I paired mine with a vintage cinch belt. I love how simple it is, and that it can be dressy or casual. I think it would be a cool idea to experiment with pillowcases that have: embroidered detail on the ends, funky prints or even your favorite cartoon characters!
